Dr. Kristie McAlpine’s Research Accepted in Human Resource Management
Rutgers School of Business–Camden is pleased to congratulate Dr. Kristie McAlpine, Assistant Professor of Management, on the acceptance of her latest research in Human Resource Management, an FT50 publication and leading journal in the field.
Dr. McAlpine’s article, “One of few or one of many? The negative affective consequences of family-to-work interruptions while working remotely,” co-authored with M. Piszczek and S. Raghuram, examines the emotional consequences employees may experience when family-related interruptions enter the workday in remote work environments.
McAlpine, K., Piszczek, M., & Raghuram, S. (in press). “One of few or one of many? The negative affective consequences of family-to-work interruptions while working remotely.” Human Resource Management.
The publication reflects Dr. McAlpine’s broader research program examining how technological and demographic changes are reshaping modern work. Her scholarship explores three interconnected areas: virtual work, the work-family interface, and demographic differences within work units.
As remote and flexible work arrangements continue to reshape how organizations structure work, understanding the experiences of employees navigating the boundaries between professional and family responsibilities has become increasingly important. Dr. McAlpine’s research contributes to this conversation by examining how family-to-work interruptions can affect employees’ experiences while working remotely.
Dr. McAlpine’s research has been published in leading academic outlets including Administrative Science Quarterly, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, and MIT Sloan Management Review. Her work has also received attention from prominent national and international media outlets, including NPR’s Planet Money, WHYY, BBC News, BBC World Service, and The New York Times.
Her contributions to research have been recognized with numerous honors. In 2026, Dr. McAlpine received both the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Research & Creative Activity from Rutgers University–Camden and the Faculty Excellence in Research Award from RSBC. She was also recognized with the 2024 New Jersey “Bright Ideas” Award, which honors one of the top 10 manuscripts published by business faculty across the state.
In addition to her research accomplishments, Dr. McAlpine is an active contributor to the scholarly community, currently serving on the editorial boards of the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management.
Please join RSBC in congratulating Dr. Kristie McAlpine on this outstanding scholarly achievement and celebrating her continued contributions to research on the evolving nature of work, organizations, and the employee experience.
