Rutgers School of Business–Camden (RSBC) is proud to launch the Pathway to Financial Planning (PTFP) Program—a dynamic new co-curricular initiative designed to prepare undergraduate students for successful careers in financial planning. Modeled after the acclaimed Road to Wall Street Program at Rutgers Business School–New Brunswick/Newark, the PTFP Program offers an elite, hands-on experience for high-achieving students interested in entering the fast-growing field of financial advising.
This highly selective, two-year, non-degree program blends academic learning with real-world application. Students accepted into the PTFP Program will:
- Join the FinServ Foundation Fellowship Program, gaining access to mentorship, career coaching, and industry networking
- Participate in Amplified Planning’s Externship Program
- Prepare for and sit for the FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam
- Complete a summer internship in financial services
Thanks to a generous grant from the FinServ Foundation, the program has launched with a fully funded pilot cohort. We’re thrilled to introduce our first participant: Aarianna Aughtry, a rising junior from Memphis, Tennessee. Aarianna is a Computer Science and Digital Studies major in Rutgers–Camden’s Honors College. As a first-generation college student from an underrepresented community, she brings passion and purpose to this opportunity.
Albert Fox, CFP, co-managing partner at Fox, Penberthy & Dehn at Morgan Stanley and a member of RSBC’s Finance Area Advisory Board, interviewed Aarianna during the application process and strongly supported her admission to the program.
“Aarianna has shown a clear commitment to improving her life and the lives of others,” said Fox. “I believe the PTFP Program will help her develop both personally and professionally.”
Meeting a Growing Demand
The launch of the PTFP Program comes at a critical time. The financial advising industry is experiencing remarkable growth:
- A 28–34% increase in financial advising relationships is projected in the next decade
- An estimated $124 billion in wealth is expected to transfer across generations by 2048
- 38% of current advisors—approximately 110,000 professionals—are approaching retirement
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 17% growth in financial advisor jobs over the next 10 years
With strong demand for fresh talent, McKinsey & Company calls recruiting students one of the most effective strategies for securing the future of the profession.
Creating an Ecosystem of Opportunity
The PTFP Program represents a critical step in Rutgers University’s broader initiative to build an ecosystem of financial planning education across both undergraduate and graduate levels.
“The PTFP Program bridges the gap between the classroom and the practice of financial planning,” says Dr. David Pedersen, Director of RSBC’s Financial Planning Programs. “It helps students lay the foundation for long-term, successful careers.”
Stay tuned as we continue to grow this exciting new program—and help shape the future of financial planning, one student at a time.
