On Campus MBA Student Highlight: John Martin
- Rutgers Grad Year: December 2027

For John Martin, pursuing an MBA at Rutgers School of BusinessโCamden is about more than advancing his career. It is about completing a journey decades in the making.
A current MBA student expected to graduate in December 2027, Martin chose Rutgers in part to honor a family legacy. His grandfather was an alumnus of the Rutgers Graduate School of Banking, making Rutgers a natural place to continue his own education.
Returning to college as an undergraduate at age 40 was not easy. After relocating to a new state and rebuilding his professional life, Martin was determined to finish what he had started 23 years earlier. That determination ultimately led him to Rutgers, where he found both inspiration and direction.
One of the most meaningful moments in his academic journey came when Professor Thomas Fewer shared a copy of his book, Venture Meets Mission. Reading the book, and later taking Fewer’s course, helped shape Martin’s career path and reinforced his passion for mission-driven entrepreneurship. Martin then went on to win the first Raptor Rise Pitch Competition.
Today, Martin is building his construction technology company, Haggai Home, while overseeing real estate development for a local community development corporation. His long-term vision is to help communities across the country reduce pre-construction costs and make housing more affordable by connecting municipalities with innovative technology solutions.
His advice for fellow students balancing work, school, and life is simple: “Do it all. Somehow, things will fall into place. And don’t be afraid to drop a few oranges while learning how to juggle.”
