Scholarly Achievement: Dr. Can Kucukgul Recognized for Research and Service
Rutgers School of Business–Camden is pleased to congratulate Dr. Can Kucukgul on two significant accomplishments recognizing his contributions to operations management research and the broader academic community.
Dr. Kucukgul’s first-authored paper, Recommender Systems Under Privacy Protection, co-authored with Özalp Özer and Shouqiang Wang, has been accepted for publication in Management Science, one of the field’s leading journals and an FT50 and UTD24 publication.
The research examines how a profit-driven platform designs recommender policies under varying privacy protection regimes, addressing an increasingly important challenge at the intersection of operations management, digital platforms, information design and consumer privacy. The work contributes to scholarship examining how firms can balance the value of personalized recommendations with growing demands for privacy protection.
The publication represents a significant addition to Dr. Kucukgul’s research portfolio. His scholarship broadly sits at the intersection of operations management and marketing, with a particular focus on revenue management applications of online platforms, market design, information and mechanism design, and data-driven optimization. RSBC’s faculty profile notes that his research has previously been published in Management Science, including his work on information design for online platforms.
Dr. Kucukgul has also been recognized for his contributions to the academic profession through his selection as a recipient of the 2025 Meritorious Service Award from Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM), another FT50 journal. The distinction recognizes his outstanding service to the journal and its broader professional community over the past year.
Together, these accomplishments reflect two important dimensions of faculty scholarship: advancing knowledge through rigorous research and contributing to the scholarly institutions and communities that sustain the field. Dr. Kucukgul’s work demonstrates the School’s commitment to research that addresses complex and consequential questions facing businesses, consumers and digital platforms.
Please join RSBC in congratulating Dr. Can Kucukgul on these well-deserved recognitions and celebrating his continued contributions to the fields of operations management and digital platforms.
