Course Overload Policy for Graduate Programs
Fall/Spring Credit Load
Current graduate students may enroll in 1 – 12 credit hours without additional permission. Students who wish to take more than 12 credits must meet the following requirements and obtain permission as detailed below:
- Enrollment in 15 credit hours requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25.
- Enrollment in 18 credit hours requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
Summer/Winter Credit Load
Summer Session: Current graduate students may enroll in up to 9 credit hours without additional permission. Students who wish to register for more than the permissible credit loads must meet the requirements listed below and obtain permission as detailed below:
- Enrollment in 12 credit hours requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25.
Winter Session: Current graduate students may not enroll in a course overload in the winter term.
PLEASE NOTE:
- First semester students will not be approved for course overloads.
- Students seeking graduation who do not meet the cumulative grade point average requirements, but have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, may be approved for an overload of no more than 6 credits if they need such a schedule to graduate at the end of the semester in question. This requires approval of the RSBC Associate Dean of Graduate Programs.
- Requests for overloads above these thresholds require approval of the RSBC Associate Dean of Graduate Programs.
