Rutgers School of Business – Camden

8 Reasons to Consider the Rutgers–Camden ProMBA

8 Reasons to Consider the Rutgers–Camden ProMBA

After five, eight, or ten years in a professional environment, you know what leadership looks like – and where yours could go further. The question is not whether an MBA is valuable, but whether a program exists that respects your experience, fits your life, and actually moves the needle.

8 Reasons to Consider the Rutgers–Camden ProMBA

The Rutgers School of Business-Camden ProMBA was redesigned with exactly that challenge in mind. It is a 21-month hybrid professional MBA built for mid-career professionals who want to lead at a higher level without pressing pause on everything else. Here are eight reasons it is worth a serious look.

1. A Redesigned Curriculum Built for Today’s Leaders

The Rutgers ProMBA was recently rebuilt to address the skills today’s organizations need most: strategic thinking, data-driven decision making, leadership in complex, technology-driven environment, and entrepreneurial mindset.

Courses such as Strategic Management, Princeton Corridor Consulting, Leadership and Teamwork, and Managing Emerging Technologies are just some that are designed to challenge experienced professionals – not teach them what they already know. Every course is built around application, so what you learn in class can be applied – day one.

2. A Hybrid Format That Works For your Career, Not Against It

Most professionals with five or more years of experience are not in a position to leave their jobs for a full-time program. The ProMBA does not ask you to. For professionals managing multiple responsibilities, this 21-month program combines:

  • One in-person Saturday per month
  • Weekly online meetings
  • A structured, predictable schedule

The hybrid format is intentional. Saturday sessions deliver high-value, in-person interactions – cases, discussions, team exercises, faculty engagement – while the online components provide flexibility for everything else. You stay fully employed, fully present at home, and fully engaged in the program.Happy African American remote employee talking on video conference call to colleagues, sitting at computer monitor, speaking to audience, attending virtual business meeting, negotiations, seminar

3. A Cohort Experience That Builds a Powerful Network

In many MBA programs, the classroom is where theory meets theory. In the ProMBA, experience meets experience. You move through the program alongside a cohort of professionals wo bring real operational knowledge from industries including:

  • Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
  • Financial services
  • Manufacturing and supply chain
  • Technology and consulting
  • Public and nonprofit sectors

You are solving problems alongside peers who run teams, manage budgets, and navigate organizational complexity every day. Those relationships only deepen over 21 months of shared work and become a lasting professional network.Group of professional MBA students standing outside smiling

4. The Executive Decision Lab: Where Integrative Thinking Gets Real

One of the ProMBA’s most distinctive features is the Executive Decision Lab, a high-energy, interactive session designed to develop integrative thinking. Rather than treating courses as isolated subjects, the Lab brings them together. Each semester, students tackle a case drawn from a real company or an integrative case study that builds directly on the three courses they are taking at the same time.

In a fast-paced, collaborative hour, cohort members brainstorm solutions, debate trade-offs, and develop perspectives that cut across finance, technology, management, marketing, operations, analytics, and strategy. It is the kind of cross-functional problem-solving you face in the real world – compressed into an engaging format that sharpens how you think under pressure.Shot of a businesswoman holding a digital tablet while standing in the boardroom

5. A Global Perspective Through International Residency

Business decisions do not stop at borders, and neither does the ProMBA. The ProMBA includes an international residency where students travel abroad for an immersive experience. Participants engage in corporate visits, hear from global business leaders, and explore how cultural and economic factors influence decision-making.

Accommodations and program activities are included in the program costs, making this a valuable and accessible global experience – not an expensive add-on.Groups of professional students standing in front of a world map

6. Skills You Can Use on Monday Morning, Not Just After Graduation

For experienced professionals, an MBA has to pay off before the diploma arrives. ProMBA students consistently report applying what they learn in real-time: leading strategic planning conversations with more confidence, using analytics to strengthen a business case, rethinking how they manage teams and cross-functional projects.

This is not a program where you stockpile knowledge for some day. The curriculum is designed for immediate application, so you contribute at a higher level in your organization while you are still completing the program.Close-up of black entrepreneur and his business team brainstorming while analyzing mind map on a meeting in the office.

7. Proven Outcomes Across Industries

ProMBA graduates advance into leadership roles, transition into new industries, and take on expanded responsibilities. Students and alumni come from, and go on to a range of organizations such as:

  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Prudential Financial
  • Sanofi
  • Bank of America
  • Educational Testing Service
  • Lockheed Martin
  • Merck & Co.

These are not just names on a list. They reflect a program that attracts accomplished professionals and equips them to take meaningful steps – whether it means a promotion, a pivot, or the confidence to lead differently where they already are.Predictive Business Analytics. 8. A Rutgers Degree with a Forward-Looking Edge

Rutgers is a Big Ten research university and the School of Business at Rutgers-Camden brings that academic rigor to a program designed for personal attention. The ProMBA is AACSB-accredited and is taught by faculty who are active researchers and experienced practitioners.

What sets the Rutgers ProMBA apart is its commitment to staying current. The recent curriculum design was grounded in rethinking of what mid-career professionals need to lead in an environment defined by rapid technological change, global complexity, and evolving workforce expectations.Group of Professional MBA students in their cap and gown regalia at the graduation ceremony

Signatures

If I am chosen and matched with an executive, I will follow through and prepare a one-page report giving honest feedback about the experience. The written summary is due by the start of the next semester. By typing my name in the box to the right I am offering my digital signature in lieu of my handwritten signature.

After the shadowing event, I will write a personal thank you letter to the executive and copy Dr. Kaufman-Scarborough and Ms. Bridget Britton for their records. By typing my name in the box to the right I am offering my digital signature in lieu of my handwritten signature.

After notified of a match, students are responsible for providing personal information to the matched executive (e.g., current resume and cover letter with information on career ambitions). The information on this application is for internal use only, for us to match you as well as possible with and executive from among our alumni database.

BLDP Application

The Spring 2023 Application is now open!

Priority will be given to applications received by November 18. Applications are accepted until all seats are filled. Space is limited, so apply early!

The seminar application process is our gateway for entry into the program. Upon acceptance into BLDP, students will be emailed their acceptance letter plus a special permission number allowing registration for the BLDP seminar.

Requirements

Seminar applications are solicited each semester and require the following:

  1. Completed application form (at the bottom of this page),
  2. For students with GPA 3.0 – 3.49, two (2) letters of recommendation (one academic; one other)

Rutgers-Camden students are invited to apply to apply for enrollment in the BLDP seminar. All applicants are expected to meet both of the following selection criteria:  (1) have sophomore standing or above and (2) have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. First-semester transfer students will be evaluated based on their GPA earned at Rutgers. Students who fail to meet these admission criteria may still be allowed to apply for (and possibly enroll in) the BLDP seminar, but they will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The director balances evaluations to make final decisions on people accepted for the seminar (up to a maximum of 15-20 each semester).

Students who are admitted to the BDLP are required to adopt the BLDP Code of Conduct. A signed contract is required from each student.

Students may count activities toward “leadership units” that were initiated prior to taking a seminar, as long as those activities occured primarily during their enrollment in their academic program.

Application for Admission to BLDP Seminar

Applications for the BLDP Seminar will be ongoing until class is filled.
