About the Rutgers School of Business Human Resource Management Majorโฏ
Human Resource Management (HRM) is a business discipline that specializes in the strategic, effective, and efficient management of people to assist organizations gain a competitive advantage and mitigate risks. The Bureau of Labor Statistics and Market Demand analyses show that the career prospects for professionals in human resource management are steadily increasing. As a professional discipline, students can obtain additional human resource management credentials to signal their expertise in the field by passing human resource management certification exams such as those offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).
The curriculum is SHRM-aligned, which means that courses will teach students the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and KnowledgeTM (SHRM BASK). This will ensure students learn behavioral and technical competencies in: Business, Leadership, People, Interpersonal, Workplace, and Organization. The required courses for the major include Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, Compensation and Benefits, Talent Management, and Strategic Human Resource Management Capstone. Elective courses offered include Career Planning and Career Management, Legal Issues in Human Resource Management, and Human Resource Management Analytics, among others. We encourage students majoring in Human Resource Management to take the Human Resource Management professional certification examinations for which they meet the eligibility criteria. โฏ
